Annie Young wrapped up the 2017 competition season with some amazing performances at the British Espoir Championships in Guildford this weekend. She was crowned champion on the bars with a huge score of 13.40, giving her a convincing victory and her first individual British title. Annie showed true bravery and star quality hitting the new more difficult version of her bar routine, which she was competing here for the first time. She went last up in the final as the top qualifier and controlled the nerves and adrenaline to perform the routine superbly well and as well as her gold medal and trophies, she also received one of the biggest cheers of support of the weekend for her victory.
Annie also competed in the finals on vault and beam and finished fourth on both events.
The gold on bars will stand proudly in Annie’s medal collection alongside the overall silver medal which she received in the all-around competition the previous day, where she hit all four of her routines solidly and with style in an enormously closely fought and high quality competition between the best twelve and thirteen year old gymnasts in the country. Also competing on that enormous stage for the first time were Lily Tranfield and Emma Atkin who both put in some strong performances and have much to build on for the future
